The remodel of this midcentury home included the removal of walls to create a living space between kitchen and dining areas, along with the placement of an extra-large kitchen island to create a central focal point.

Sockeye Homes

Have you ever imagined what can be done with your "Not-Big-Enough" dining room and "Never-Gets-Used" living room? By adding 5 new beams and additional concrete in the crawl space, we were able to relocate the load-bearing walls and create a true “Open Concept Great Room Design.”

Harjo Construction

This remodel of a 1923 Home features a new kitchen and bathroom on the main floor, along with an all-new basement buildout, including new bath and laundry rooms, in addition to a bedroom. The kitchen has been reconfigured with a modernized layout that includes an expanded entrance between the kitchen and dining areas. The main-floor bath contains a large walk-in shower made more relaxing through thoughtful placement of the rain showerhead and controls. Outside the shower, a custom-built vanity table awaits, made out of reclaimed wood from a dock. Entering the basement, you will find a media area and exercise space.

Kurt Harjo

36th Avenue Design Build

Located in Wallingford, this 1920s craftsman bungalow was last left with an uninspired 90s remodel. The project goal was to increase the overall square footage while modernizing the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Additional goals were to improve the main floor layout and function to meet today's modern lifestyle, while still maintaining the original bungalow charm and quaintness of the home through specific and attentive architectural details. To accomplish the goals at hand and with extensive input from our clients, we collaborated to design a 500+ square-foot second-floor master suite addition, as well as a complete redesign of the main level floor plan.

From the street, the home feels unassuming and fits the tradition of the neighborhood. But once inside, the amount of space, light, and function quickly becomes tangible. The project required demolition to bare studs and partial second story removal. Through thoughtful and intentional design, we began crafting a space that works in concert with our clients' desires. The second floor includes three bedrooms and two baths, vaulted ceilings, skylights, and large windows to provide open space and ample daylight as requested through client input. Other finishes include hardwoods throughout, heated tile floors, and custom shower glass. On the main level, you find a spacious family room, dining room, informal TV area, and a chef-inspired gourmet kitchen. The hardwoods continue throughout, with an open-rail staircase, douglas fir double hung windows, wainscoting trim paneling, and crown molding. As part of the design, we were also respectful of original architectural elements in order to pay homage to the 1920s home. To complement these items, we repurposed the home's salvaged lumber to create a few custom pieces of furniture and built-ins. These include the floating shelves in the kitchen, custom open vanity and mirror in the powder room, as well the Stickley-inspired dining room table. This home provides the craftsman-inspired details that have been long celebrated throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Schulte Construction

Our clients purchased this West Seattle home with the intention to formalize a grand entertaining space on the entire first floor. We brought the space down to the studs and reconfigured the dining, living and kitchen to take advantage of the amazing island view. This included new windows and french doors that open up to a new deck that faces the view. New hardwood floors were installed, creating a cohesive look throughout. The kitchen is chef-worthy and has all new cabinets with ample storage, along with built-in benches. The master suite includes walk-in closets, updated bath and shower, along with a double vanity.

The results are beautiful and the clients are thrilled.

Chermak Construction Inc.

This project began with friendship. We had just completed another local remodel and were recommended by word-of-mouth. The home was a typical 1950s-era rambler with small rooms, narrow hallways, and a sunken living room. Our homeowner wanted an open and contemporary space that would accommodate aging in place. By removing an existing slate floor entry, railings, a living area planter, a wall between the kitchen/living room, and the fireplace, we were able to open up the main living area. The sunken living room was raised to be level with the rest of the home. In addition to this new living/kitchen/dining space, we repurposed existing rooms to create a home office, craft room, remodeled bath, and luxurious walk-in-closet. The home was updated with hardwood flooring, lever-style handles on all doors, new appliances, easy-to-maintain countertops, and new windows. Our homeowner loves that her “new home” is so open and bright!

Irons Brothers Construction: Capitol Hill

This darling 1905 Capitol Hill home has a lot of charm. To complete its look, the kitchen, dining room, and adjacent powder room have been modernized. A new kitchen design and expanded powder room increase the homeowner’s storage space and functionality. 

The kitchen shines with honey maple cabinetry and Cambria quartz countertops, along with a gas cooktop, built-in double oven, and mosaic tile backsplash, all set to the backdrop of under-cabinet lighting and marmoleum flooring. To integrate the original architecture into the kitchen and dining areas, arched doorways were built at either entrance and new wood windows installed. 

The adjacent powder room features cloud-white stained cabinetry, Cambria quartz countertops, and a glass tile backsplash, plus new plumbing fixtures, a ventilation fan, and marmoleum flooring. 
The home is now a complete package and an amazing space!

This 1951 midcentury contemporary kitchen was updated by opening up the walls, relocating a doorway, and reducing south-facing window heights to regain territorial mountain views. The new design created an unobstructed and stylish open concept kitchen for cooking, entertaining, and family gatherings. Features include: new cabinetry integrating two different lines, appliances, quartz countertops, tile backsplash, flooring, and updated lighting.

Sockeye Homes

This nationally award-winning, 5,000 square foot contemporary, open-concept home showcases incredible lake views, incorporates a variety of textures and illumination, and integrates the exterior living spaces into the predominantly white interior finishes.

The Japanese Nichiha exterior siding provides a contemporary feel with low maintenance. The existing 1950s home has been transformed into a modern showstopper!

Pathway Design & Construction

Like most kitchens built in 1968, this one was closed off, making it a prime candidate for remodeling. Focusing on a brighter, better ventilated kitchen, the dream of taking down the wall between the kitchen and adjacent rooms allowed the homeowners to add an island and cozy eating area, creating a more functional space. Dark wood flooring, new cabinets, countertops, a new range, and a modern sink with glass tile backsplash completed the transformation.

Gaspar's Construction

This 70s house with great bones missed the mark with a choppy layout and by obscuring a fantastic view. We opened the floor plan and the entire back wall to the water view. Between the 21-foot sliding door and a sleek combination of wood and painted cabinets, there’s no way to miss the intention. It is now a space that is both calm and vibrant, ready to accommodate a party for 40 or a quiet fireside dinner for two.

Carlisle Classic Homes LLC

The third and largest phase in the continued remodeling of this 1920s Queen Anne Tudor Revival focused on adding modern kitchen and bathroom amenities with classic details and craftsmanship. A central staircase shows off a one-of-a-kind design and custom moldings.

The new addition made room for a master suite and larger kitchen. A guest bathroom and powder room were relocated and revitalized. Every detail was considered in this meticulous remodel.
