Gaspar's Construction

This 1926 home had seen a lot of different eras and remodels over the years. Our homeowners wanted to bring some of the original charm back to the kitchen and living spaces while also adding modern conveniences. The charm part is addressed with crown molding, beautiful tile, light fixtures, a farmhouse sink and Shaker-style cabinets. Modern conveniences include removing two walls to create a larger kitchen, as well as to create connection between the kitchen and the rest of the living space. A new range hood is flush with the ceiling so that it doesn’t block sight lines in the kitchen. Finally, we converted the wood-burning fireplace to a modern gas fireplace.

J.A. Ratto Builder

Custom cherry cabinetry, honed countertops, and professional appliances complement the unique design and brilliant installation of the glass backsplashes, heated porcelain tiled floor, functional and spectacular lighting, leather and recycled wood furniture. CRD Design Build

You’d never know what exists behind the humble original façade of this small 1906 craftsman house. The near-total remodel is a wonderful blend of vintage charm, comfort, and modern luxuries. Inside and out, the Midvale House captures well the trend to monetize one’s home within an updated modern floor plan, incorporating some of the best energy-saving technology, finishes, and design concepts, while maximizing the connections to the outdoor spaces.

The modern and colorful ADU daylight basement unit, which received the MBA's Best Basement Remodel and Best Green Remodel Awards at the 2016 REX Awards, was dug out to create an almost eight-foot ceiling height. A new foundation, earthquake retrofitting, and a state-of-the art sound attenuation system between the floors was added, along with many impressive energy-saving features. The more traditional upper unit is full of light and connection to the landscape with windows, windows, windows everywhere and no less than five doors connecting the unit to the upper-level deck, front porch, and private back garden. AND, there’s Rosie’s Roost, the chicken castle and focal point of the yard.

Denny Conner

Denny Conner has been helping greater Seattle homeowners transform their homes through remodeling since 1980. Realizing there was often a gap between the designs clients brought him and what they could afford, he began pioneering the design-build service in the early 1990s. He founded his company with the goal of establishing a home remodeling and construction business that treats its customers with dignity and respect. Conner Remodeling and Design, now CRD Design Build, improved the home remodeling process from start to finish. G.R. Burgess Co.

This English Hill kitchen was built in 1983 and had seen a lot of family dinners. It was pretty basic to begin with and working space was tight. An existing closet was converted into a large built-in pantry. A beam was installed with steel posts to fit between and be concealed by the new cabinetry in order to eliminate a framed wall and gain more working space in the kitchen. Removal of drywall soffits and enlarging the kitchen window also added to a feeling of spaciousness. Clear-grade hickory cabinetry and beams, a farmhouse sink, and quartzite countertops made the kitchen into a really pleasant place to be.

Gentry Burgess

The Burgess family has been immersed in craftsmanship and building since Gentry's childhood. His grandfather was a millwright, a trim carpenter, and was in the Corps of Engineers in WWII. He would describe in detail and show his grandchildren how they made spiral chutes out of wood for flour mills in Kansas or how they hung and installed eight doors a day for new houses in Denver. The foreman would run a nickel around the door to check the gap. If it was wrong, you did it over. It was all done precisely, one at a time, with hand tools. He taught his grandkids to appreciate a job well done. Gentry started his career in carpentry and building at age 10 with 4-H classes, built his first house at age 17, and has been a builder and remodeler ever since, from 1983-1988 in Twin Falls, Idaho, and from 1988 to present in Kirkland, Washington.

Lakeville Homes

A midcentury split-level home is often viewed as a building lot. In this case, it was seen as a framework and as potential. A largely cosmetic renovation gave this Mercer Island home a new identity, greater functionality, and a bit of wow factor! The home is contemporary and chic, with clean lines and bold graphics to keep things interesting. The latest in technology is part of the equation in the form of appliances, specialty lighting, and even plumbing fixtures.

Schulte Construction

We expanded the kitchen into a previously enclosed porch and relocated the exterior door. We replaced a door opening with a pass-through "window" between the dining room and kitchen to keep the two rooms connected and maximize wall space. Outside, we removed vinyl siding and restored the original wood siding and trim. We also replaced all of the windows, front porch (including stairs and railing), garage door, and roofing and added new paint.

Irons Brothers Construction Inc.: Lake Forest Park

This 1953 kitchen was transformed into an open concept and modernized to meet the growing needs of a young couple with a baby on the way. By removing the dividing wall, the small kitchen was transformed into an inviting, integrated space. 

Features include new cabinetry, appliances, quartz countertops, tile backsplash, new flooring, and updated lighting. A new pantry closet with a barn door and open corner shelving add to the modern styling.

Irons Brothers Construction Inc.: Seattle

This 1951 midcentury contemporary kitchen was updated by opening up the walls, relocating a doorway, and reducing south-facing window heights to regain territorial mountain views. The new design created an unobstructed and stylish open concept kitchen for cooking, entertaining, and family gatherings. Features include: new cabinetry integrating two different lines, appliances, quartz countertops, tile backsplash, flooring, and updated lighting.

Sockeye Homes

This nationally award-winning, 5,000 square foot contemporary, open-concept home showcases incredible lake views, incorporates a variety of textures and illumination, and integrates the exterior living spaces into the predominantly white interior finishes.

The Japanese Nichiha exterior siding provides a contemporary feel with low maintenance. The existing 1950s home has been transformed into a modern showstopper!

Pathway Design & Construction

Like most kitchens built in 1968, this one was closed off, making it a prime candidate for remodeling. Focusing on a brighter, better ventilated kitchen, the dream of taking down the wall between the kitchen and adjacent rooms allowed the homeowners to add an island and cozy eating area, creating a more functional space. Dark wood flooring, new cabinets, countertops, a new range, and a modern sink with glass tile backsplash completed the transformation.

Gaspar's Construction

This 70s house with great bones missed the mark with a choppy layout and by obscuring a fantastic view. We opened the floor plan and the entire back wall to the water view. Between the 21-foot sliding door and a sleek combination of wood and painted cabinets, there’s no way to miss the intention. It is now a space that is both calm and vibrant, ready to accommodate a party for 40 or a quiet fireside dinner for two.

Richard Landon Design

A three-bedroom rambler with street views becomes a two-story contemporary, featuring a new 14-foot high center section and treetop views—even though the home is surrounded by neighbors! Inventive solutions are seen throughout: downspouts run through ingenious "struts" around the perimeter; remote-controlled shades are concealed above windows; and kitchen and bath details by a Certified Master Kitchen & Bath Designer, including a one-of-a-kind kitchen sink.

Carlisle Classic Homes LLC

The third and largest phase in the continued remodeling of this 1920s Queen Anne Tudor Revival focused on adding modern kitchen and bathroom amenities with classic details and craftsmanship. A central staircase shows off a one-of-a-kind design and custom moldings.

The new addition made room for a master suite and larger kitchen. A guest bathroom and powder room were relocated and revitalized. Every detail was considered in this meticulous remodel.

City Builders Inc.

A partial second story with two bedrooms and a bathroom were added to this 1943 home. Structural modifications were made to the entry and living room layout.

It features beautiful custom-built black walnut cabinets, new stair railings, and a gas fireplace surrounded with grey bark tile, completely changing the look and function of the home. Cubbies for every member of the family are a new laundry room feature.

Wrapped front porch posts and exposed tongue-and-groove cedar soffits provide attractive finishing touches to the exterior.

CRD Design Build

Two new, updated bathrooms grace this charming 1911 Phinney Ridge home, adding better functionality and more personal style. Period tile with beautiful cobalt blue accents make these bathrooms new favorite rooms. The second floor bath features a curbless shower and fold-down shower bench, adding versatility for different bathroom users. The unique pot-filler faucet makes the tub fun to use and relax in.

Sockeye Homes: Site 1

This Tuscan waterfront villa transports you to the old world with its stone and stucco exterior, 17-foot cathedral ceilings, indoor brick pizza oven, exquisite terra cotta and hardwood floors, wood burning fireplace, distressed and reclaimed wood accents, handmade painted custom tile, wine barrel sink vanity, outdoor shower, and Juliet balconies. The home features breathtaking water views from the 16-foot Nanawall glass door that opens to a trellised outdoor deck. The entire custom home is open for touring and includes two kitchens, four bathrooms, and numerous multi-purpose living spaces.

Sockeye Homes: Site 2

This open concept kitchen/living room design was made possible by removing a load bearing wall and installing structural beams. An entertainment dream, features include an automated TV elevator, the latest in entertainment/sound systems, a wine storage and dispenser, and an automated ceiling island hood.

Unique modern accents complete this breathtaking kitchen and great room remodel. Chermak Construction Inc.

This project gave the homeowners what many are looking for in a home remodel; the master suite, kitchen, and guest and family baths have all been updated with fresh, new designs completely tailored to the family’s needs and lifestyle. As a bonus, a music room was added. Sea glass colors splash throughout the Craftsman-styled home. New appliances, hardwood flooring, windows, and skylights provide a “new home” experience without the move.

Irons Brothers Construction Inc.: Shoreline

This 1949 home was transformed to meet the changing needs of the homeowner, a retired war veteran.

Using universal design principles, the remodel includes a master bathroom, kitchen, living room with new fireplace, updated flooring, doors, trim, and a wider staircase and doorways. All floor transitions were removed. The walk-in shower includes a bench. Easier access and use was created in the updated kitchen.

By removing obstacles, greater ease and overall safety was achieved. Thanks to these changes, the owner now has greater independence in his home.
